UNDER THE HOOD / DUPLO ISADDLE SENSHI 45 www.printmonthly.co.uk September / October 2024 - Issue 350 Duplo has enjoyed considerable success with the iSaddle 5.0 which Print Monthly reviewed back in May 2023. Looking at this latest release, Duplo has not rested on its laurels as its new saddle stitcher is not only pushing boundaries, but it also comes with a new name to reflect this machine’s attributes. The new model is called the iSaddle SENSHI, which builds on the previous machine with common elements to it. The changes designed into the new machine bring about improved versatility and flexibility, productivity, quality, and automation. So, what’s the meaning behind the name? SENSHI comes from the Japanese for ‘Warrior’, and Duplo deliberately selected this name as it means ‘strength and agility’. Looking at the specification and statistics for the machine, you can see the logic behind the selection. The new machine sets new benchmarks for both speed and quality of saddle stitched products directly from flat sheets. The iSaddle SENSHI can give a large scope of feeder trays in either three or six tower formats meaning the nature of possible products is almost endless. It is this format of collating towers which adds to the flexibility and versatility of which Duplo says enables you to get high-speed, high-quality folded, stitched, and trimmed products. Customers can choose between the DSC-10/60i collator in a three-line single tower or if your scope of work is in need of more capacity, the DSC-10/60i collator three double tower configuration is also available. As for sizes, the iSaddle SENSHI can produce a booklet 354mm x 304mm in one-up production and this can be in portrait and landscape dependent on size configuration. Added to this, the iSaddle SENSHI can scope out products such as stepped booklets and products with pockets and flaps. Overall, the system can produce a wide variation of stitched products that normally need more complex subcontracting. Speeds for the system are from 4,000/ hr for A4 booklets, 5050/hr for A5 with up to 30 sheets, and finally 10,100/hr for A6 booklets when produced two-up. As for the paper weights, fine quality papers between 64 to 157gsm and art/coated stocks from 81gsm can pass through the iSaddle SENSHI, both with a cover of up to 300gsm. The other advantage of the tower system is that as well as a wide variation of choices available for the product you need to produce, you can also split or block together booklet sections so you can be in production without stopping for large periods of time. Should you choose the double tower layout, this not only clearly gives you a wide variety of collation options, but the other THE NEW SADDLE STITCHING WARRIOR Duplo has brought to market a new iteration of the hugely successful iSaddle 5.0 saddle stitching solution, but now it claims to redefine efficiency and reinvent tradition.
