53 www.printmonthly.co.uk September / October 2023 - Issue 344 Taking place each year, the SMP Mail Performance Awards celebrate mailing houses, printers, print managers, and agencies who have achieved remarkable work for their clients. Two new awards have been announced for the 2023 event which nurture new talent and the need to continuously improve sustainability. The first of the two new awards is the Bright Futures Award which has been designed to shine a light on emerging talent under the age of 30 in the UK print and mailing industry. Secondly, the new Sustainability Award will recognise organisations that have delivered a successful campaign that has reduced environmental impacts within the campaign and the wider value chain. Free to enter and open to all Strategic Mailing Partnership members, the deadline for entrants to the awards was August 25th. According to the Strategic Mailing Partnership (SMP), business size is irrelevant and the judges will be looking for how entrants have made a difference to a client’s mailing or campaign with only the performance of the mailing taken into consideration not the size of the client. SMP chair, Lucy Swanston, comments: “The Strategic Mail Performance Awards aim to celebrate and showcase exceptional work within our industry. What sets these Awards apart is their focus on highlighting the specific contributions of entrants that have made a difference to a client’s mailing or campaign.” According to Swanston, judges will be looking at how mail producers have inbuilt strategy, creativity, sustainability, and use of data to drive enhanced performance, as well as shining a spotlight on the young rising stars. “The Bright Futures Award, new for 2023, aims to highlight the fantastic up and coming talent that we have within our industry, and the incredible potential that they have,” Swanston adds. “And with our new Sustainability Award we want to champion companies going that extra mile to engrain the most sustainable practices through their client campaigns, trailblazing the possible for our industry.” For the Bright Futures Award, judges will be looking for details of the outstanding work or projects the young person has contributed to and the part they played in delivering the projects. Examples of entries include where mail producers have helped a client save money or improve performance by changing a pack design and format; helped a client achieve a better ROI by enhancing areas such as the use of data or targeting; or helped a client enhance their customer journey by redesigning a campaign.
