Issue 253 - June / July 2024 4 ISSUE 253June / July 2024 email: news@signlink.co.uk signlink signlink signlinkmagazine GHOST SIGN CORNER: Handel in Aardappelen, Delft This Dutch ghost sign once advertised the potato dealer G. van der Gaag. He was operating here from around 1923 when he took over the premises from A. van der Gaag, a ship’s skipper, and likely his father. The business traded until G. van der Gaag’s death in the mid-1930s. The sign features a manicule (printer’s fist) pointing towards what is presumably a trade entrance, distinct from the building’s main door that faces the canal. The full translation of the lettering is ‘potato dealer, retail and wholesale’ with the door number and business owner's name also given. The sign’s host building was recognised for its architecture in 2011, and this will help to ensure that the ghost sign remains in situ for our enjoyment for many years to come. 6 Issue 253 - June / July 2024 www.signlink.co.uk INDUSTRY / NEWS signlink signlink signlinkmagazine For the past couple of years, direct-to-film has been a rapidly growing area of the print industry with new launches and technology innovations not showing signs of slowing. At FESPA 2024, the focus was on powderless DTF technologies with Brother demonstrating a prototype and Kornit Digital previewing a new DTF-like solution. Ricoh also launched a new DTF machine, the Ricoh Pro D1600 which integrates a powder agitator and drying unit that removes bottlenecks. Mimaki Europe made its first foray into DTF back in April 2023 with the launch of its TxF150-75 DTF inkjet printer. The manufacturer then went on to launch the TxF300-75 model, offering higher print speeds in February this year. Back in September 2023, InkTec built on the success of its 600mm compact DTF printer earlier in the year, by launching a new UV DTF machine at The Print Show in the NEC, Birmingham. Now, Keypoint Intelligence, has revealed its 2022-2027 Global DTF Forecast: Navigating the Future of Direct-to-Film Technology. This forecast is designed to reveal the projected growth and dynamics of the DTF industry and whilst the DTF industry has shown significant growth, it hasn’t been without its challenges. The forecast will act as an essential guide for navigating the industry and offers a deep dive into the DTF market’s current state and future growth outlook. Including expert analysis of DTF printers, inks, and technology platforms, the report provides a comprehensive view of hardware placements, installed base, print volume and value, and other metrics. First Global DTF forecast report revealed Keypoint Intelligence has revealed its first Global DTF Forecast Report looking at the landscape from 2022-2027 OOH “the most sustainable advertising platform” OOH makes up less than 3.5% of the total carbon footprint of UK advertising A new report from Outsmart, the trade body for the UK out-of-home (OOH) advertising industry, has found that compared to all other media measured (TV, online, radio, print, and email), OOH produces the least amount of carbon emissions per impression. Findings show that OOH makes up less than 3.5% of the total carbon footprint of the UK’s advertising activities with a total power consumption of 3.3% out of all UK advertising outlets. In total, the industry makes up 0.067% of all the power consumption in the UK, meaning OOH’s power consumption is lower than its share of all advertising spend (3.8% according to an AA/WARC report in 2023). Data from Clear Channel, Global, JCDecaux, and Ocean Outdoor was used to generate the report. FESPA has announced further details about the return of WrapFest to Silverstone Race Circuit from October 3rd to 4th. The event includes World Wrap Masters (WWM) UK, the British leg of the global wrap competition which will see winners qualify to compete at the WWM Series final in FESPA Berlin next year. Promising developments in the industry will be showcased including colour-changing paint protection film (PPF) as well as textured vinyl wrap set to be a popular attraction from several exhibitors. WrapFest is also promising a chance for visitors to network and unwind following the likes of live demonstrations, simulator racing, and wrap competitions at the exhibition at Wrap Party. WrapFest to return to Silverstone this October Grayers Graphics, an Essex-based signage company, has successfully wrapped the coach for Brazil’s international football team with only eight hours’ notice. The project was completed ahead of Brazil’s match against England on Saturday, March 23rd, in which the two sides took part in a friendly match at Wembley Stadium. Grayers Graphics used Arlon printed material and single-colour wrap film for the bright yellow bus, a testament to its dedication to the brand after recently being awarded a Gold Partnership Accreditation by Arlon. Following the project, the company was put forward to wrap the coaches for the UEFA Champion’s League Final. Grayers recently celebrated its 20th year in business. The coach was wrapped in Brazil’s signature yellow, green, and blue colours in just eight hours The 2024 edition of WrapFest will include over 50 exhibitors and 75 brands Grayers Graphics scores exciting wrap project A number of digital technology-based companies have helped bring Manchester Printworks to life with Europe’s largest digital ceiling. This high-end machine has been a game changer for businesses seeking high productivity and quality as well as expanded capabilities. “We will demonstrate a range of applications on the printer including roll-toroll production, neon, and varnish effects, and other specialty applications. It’s a great opportunity to present our equipment’s capabilities to a new audience. Exhibitions, like The Print Show, are incredibly important to swissQprint.” Besides introducing the Kudu, Stewart says the company’s presence will be used to highlight its industry leading supported reliability in the form of its newly launched 36-month warranty which covers the entire swissQprint range. SwissQprint can be found on Stand C10. 16 www.signlink.co.uk Issue 253 - June / July 2024 Fujifilm returns to The Print Show 2024 After a successful year exhibiting at The Print Show in 2023 with a 240sq m stand, Fujifilm will return to the event this September. Last year, the manufacturer had an unmissable presence despite being at the back of the hall due to having the largest single exhibitor stand in the history of The Print Show. Fujifilm used the space to demonstrate its growing range of digital print solutions for commercial, wide-format, and packaging print markets. The newly launched Revoria range of digital toner solutions was on show including the flagship, award-winning 6-colour Revoria Press PC1120. Fujifilm’s new XMF PressReady digital workflow solution was also on show. Since the last show, Fujifilm has made many new announcements including the launch of the world’s first B2+ dry toner press, the Revoria Press GC12500 this spring as well as automation updates to its Acuity Ultra Hybrid LED wide-format offering. Fujifilm has also recently launched the new 46kUV inkjet Printbar System and is celebrating its 90th year in business with a new official company purpose: Giving Our World More Smiles. Commenting on Fujifilm’s decision to return to The Print Show in 2024, Andy Kent, division manager of Fujifilm UK, says: “It felt that taking on The Print Show in 2023 was a little bit of a risk, maybe a punt in some ways, because we hadn’t done one since 2014. But we felt the time was right. It was good timing as we had releases of equipment and 2023 was great for us. Now, renewing and rebooking for 2024 is a totally different scenario for us. We were really pleased with what happened at The Print Show 2023, we got good customer engagement, our staff really enjoyed it, and we’ve got some good leads and opportunities, and closed sales out of it. So, going into this year is a bit of a no-brainer for us really.” More information will be revealed about what Fujifilm will be bringing to The Print Show 2024 in the coming months. Fujifilm can be found on Stand E50. Fujifilm had the largest single stand in the history of The Print Show in 2023 Floor plan now 70% full With less than six months to go until The Print Show returns to the NEC in Birmingham, the floor plan is now over 70% full. Taking place from September 17th to 19th, the UK trade show for the print industry will be held in Hall 17 of the NEC. A number of returning exhibitors were quick to secure their place at the 2024 exhibition including long-time supporters such as Vivid Laminating Technologies, Encore Machinery, B&R Moll, The Online Print Coach, Venture Banners and VB Media, Aurora, Route1Print, Solopress, and more. New names on the floorplan this year include major manufacturers Agfa and swissQprint and the UK’s largest supplier of wide-format kit, cutters, and media, CMYUK. The exhibition hall is set to be filled with names from all corners of the industry from manufacturers, suppliers and resellers, software providers, paper and media merchants, and trade printers. This means there will be plenty of opportunities for visitors to explore new technologies and gain the expertise and knowledge needed to grow their businesses. Speaker Schedule Revealed How important is SEO for boosting a brand’s visibility? Should sustainability be at the forefront of a business? Other topics include the latest developments in AI for print by Simon Biltcliffe, founder of Webmart; using LinkedIn to win new business by Paul Sutton; and a green panel by Tradeprint, MOSS UK, Brett Martin, and Carbonquota on how printers can be more sustainable. The talks will take place every hour from 11am to 3.30pm and more speakers are set to be announced in the coming weeks along with more detailed information on each talk. With such a varied schedule of topics and speakers, there will be plenty for visitors to The Print Show 2024 to absorb and benefit from as part of their visit. 5 2.5 Bisbell Magnets A06 10 5 10 5 Venture Banners A20 3 5 Wildcard Software A11 10 7.5 10 7.5 Aurora A35 10 10 10 Knowledge Zone A67 4.5 6 4.5 Elliott Baxter B50 9 12 9 12 Premier Paper Group B01 9 8.5 9 8.5 Sold - Exhibitor TBA B05 3 9 3 9 Artworker.com B10 10 10 7.5 E30 4 3.5 4 CMYK Me For Printing Solutions Ltd C20 8 3.5 8 3.5 Colyer C07 8 11.5 8 11.5 Morgana Systems Ltd C01 8 10 8 10 swissQprint C10 10 5 10 5 Solopress Ltd D20 8.5 10 8.5 10 AGFA D10 10 6 10 6 E55 5 3 XMPIE E53 8 26 8 26 Vivid Laminating Technologies Ltd C40 5 8 5 Print Show Sales Lounge E34 16 15 16 15 Fujifilm UK E50 10 6 10 6 InkTec Europe E20 10 4 10 4 E10 7 8 7 Coffee Cart E07 3 3 Blue Toad P44 6 Reserved P64 4 Fangda Packaging P98 10 12 10 12 Resolute Dtg Ltd D01 5 5 5 B & R Moll International Ltd D07 5 3 Renz Uk Ltd A10 5 5.5 A17 5 5.5 A19 6 5 6 VB Media B20 4.5 4.5 6 Route 1 Print B55 4 4 10 Result Clothing D40 5 5 8 E42 6 First Display P82 3 3 Eye on Display P92 3 Howden P102 10 8 10 8 MUTOH A40 3 P42 4 RMC Digital Print P47 3 5 Printaply P18 5 10 5 Networking Area A65 9 3 Encore Machinery P62 5 3 3 The Online Print Coach B25 5 3 PAL Adhesive Products D05 3 P41 3 P40 9 8 8 Quality Print Services B45 3 P39 3Tech-ni-Fold P39A 20 Tianjin Tianjiao International P29 5 EVE Products Ltd P38 10 P123 10 Print Monthly P109 4 10 4 Nova Chrome D35 4.5 6 4.5 Elliott Baxter B60 10 3 3 D & K Europe Ltd E52 10 10 10 CMYUK A01 8 10 8 10 Soyang Europe E01 5 2 OPUS UK D08 9 7.5 7.5 B40 8 7.5 8 C30 10 10 D30 3 3 Exel Print Machinery P46 3 3 8 E Prod Software E08 3 5 E54 4 4 3.5 Accura Mis C25 5 5 Axzyra A07 3 20 Hybrid P60 7 P125 7 P112 6 4.5 4.5 Nettl B65 3 5 P96 2.5 Very Displays A05 3 3 P127 6 P38A 3 P48 6 Reserved P84 4 Flex4 P80 2 Hybrid Storage P61 3 P50 3 Two Sides P110 Organisers Office HALL 17 ENTRANCE THIS FLOORPLAN IS SUBJECT TO APPROVAL FROM THE VENUE AND LOCAL AUTHORITIES Issue Number : 321 Issue Date : 31 May 2024 Drawn By: chris@theprintshow.co.uk Issue Number: 321 Issue Date: 31 May 2024 EVENTS - THE PRINT SHOW / NEWS

17 email: news@signlink.co.uk Issue 253 - June / July 2024 5 Reasons Why Visiting The Print Show Can Boost Your Business I’m always surprised when I speak to people in our industry who don’t see the importance of attending trade shows and how it can boost their business. Events like The Print Show are not only vital to strengthening our industry, but they are also filled with great opportunities. Whilst I appreciate taking time away from the workplace can be difficult, here are 5 reasons why I feel you should make the time. 1. Market Overview Our industry has changed so much in the 25+ years I’ve been a part of it and it’s changing at a more rapid pace than ever before. Businesses need to stay informed if they want to remain competitive so it’s important to stay up to date with market trends and stay ahead of the game with our audience’s preferences. 2. Gain Access to Expert Exhibitors There are numerous types of exhibitors available to assist in the growth of your business. From manufacturers showcasing the latest technology, suppliers of consumables, and software tools to trade production services, the UK’s largest dedicated print show has you covered. 3. Opportunities to Network The Print Show is the perfect platform to connect or even reconnect with suppliers and strategic partners. Whilst the world has become more comfortable since the pandemic with meetings online, nothing beats a valuable and physical face-to-face conversation. 4. Showcase of the Latest Technology The organisers of The Print Show look to bring you the latest innovations and technology to ensure you are armed with the right tools to develop and grow your business. Each year, new opportunities are unveiled that shape the future of the printing industry here in the UK. Even if you are not in the market for that new piece of kit right now, it allows you to put in the groundwork and start to build provisions for the future. 5. Training & Business Development Last year’s introduction of The Knowledge Zone delivered a fantastic array of free of charge knowledge to visitors at the show and 2024 promises to do the same. Some of the leading experts in our industry will be inspiring you with all the latest topics and trends to positively impact your business. Having been in the print industry since the mid-late 90s, Colin Sinclair McDermott entered the world of self-employment in 2004 and over the years that followed, experienced a number of highs and lows running his own print company, learning what does and doesn’t work. In 2022, he trained with The Business Coaching Academy to become a fully certified corporate coach with the Worldwide Association of Business Coaches. Through The Online Print Coach, industry members can access an online training platform, Print Mastermind, as well as private 1-to-1 coaching with Sinclair McDermott. www.theonlineprintcoach.com The Print Show will take place in Hall 17 of the NEC, Birmingham this September The Online Print Coach, Colin Sinclair McDermott, reveals five reasons why visting a UK print exhibition like The Print Show can boost your business EVENTS - THE PRINT SHOW / NEWS

EVENTS - THE PRINT SHOW / NEWS 18 www.signlink.co.uk Issue 253 - June / July 2024 Industry members hot to trot at Hospitality Day Braving the great British weather, 30 attendees including large manufacturers, resellers, trade printers, and paper merchants, flocked to Cheltenham Racecourse for The Print Show’s first Hospitality Day of 2024. Some guests enjoyed more success than others but the real reward of the day was the chance to network and mingle with new and existing industry contacts in a relaxed environment. “Like any event, it’s getting people there which is the toughest challenge and thankfully all 30 of our guests arrived,” joked Chris Davies, event director of The Print Show, adding: “The day was very well received, and everyone had a fantastic day out.” “A few of the lucky ones even picked a couple of winners, sadly that wasn’t the case for me. Many of our guests commented on how great it was to catch up with other industry professionals, some they had never met or not seen for ages.” Following the event, guests took to LinkedIn to share their enjoyment and to thank The Print Show for its hospitality. Sam Cawthorne, marketing communications lead at Kyocera Document Solutions, commented: “Thank you for a wonderful day. Definitely getting a Fedora next time. Lovely to meet everyone.” Chris Matthews, head of digital press solutions at Fujifilm Graphic Communications, also commented: “Thanks for a great day at the races! It was good spending time with the Print Show team and all of your guests.” Echoing these comments, Andrew Simmons, director of product development at Soyang Europe, added: “Thank you for a great day. Good to catch up. Very enjoyable.” Following the success of Cheltenham, The Print Show is preparing to host more events throughout the year. The Print Show hosted its first hospitality day of 2024 at Cheltenham Racecourse Exhibitors go big for The Print Show 2024 Following the success and positive reaction to The Print Show 2023, businesses have been confirming their presence early with a number increasing their space. By the end of the 2023 exhibition many exhibitors had already committed to the 2024 show including Resolute, VB Media, Venture Banners, The Online Print Coach, and Trade Embroidery. Since then, Solopress, eProductivity Software, Result Clothing, Graphtec, Route1Print, Morgana Systems, AccuraMIS, Colyer, Opus Binding and Foiling, Vivid Laminating Technologies, and more have all confirmed their presence at The Print Show 2024 with many increasing the size of their stands. Returning to The Print Show after exhibiting in 2023, Fujifilm has taken the largest stand (at the time of writing) with 240sq m space. Chris Davies, event director for The Print Show, comments: “It’s fantastic to see so many exhibitors are signing up early for this year’s show which really demonstrates the confidence and quality the show has accrued over the last few years. “Thanks to the quality of customers at the 2023 show and the many product releases due to take place in 2024 it’s great that businesses have increased their stand spaces to accommodate for all their new machinery and the volume of customers expected at the show.” Many exhibitors have taken larger space for the 2024 exhibition in September By Carys Evans & David Osgar
